About Module 1 — Foundations of Ifá
Module 1 of Ifá Wisdom is the starting point for any serious student of the Yoruba tradition. Across five structured lessons, you are introduced to the conceptual pillars of the system: what Ifá is and how it differs from other religious traditions, the concept of Orí (spiritual head and personal destiny), the sacred Yoruba vocabulary that recurs throughout oracular literature, the 16 main Orishas with their domains and archetypes, and the fundamental dynamic between Ire (blessing) and Osogbo (warning) that structures every interpretation of the Odus.
This module is free and was designed for those who have never encountered Yoruba philosophy — it begins from zero, assuming no prior knowledge. Each lesson includes in-depth explanatory text, quizzes to consolidate learning, and XP and Asé rewards that activate the gamification system. By the end of Module 1, you will have enough foundation to begin using the Ifá Oracle with depth — you will understand what each Odu means, why the Orishas matter, and how the Babalawo traditionally works.
Module 1 does not replace traditional initiation in the Yoruba tradition (Bori, Kariocha, or Itefá can only be performed by an initiated priest in a physical temple). It is philosophical and cultural education — the respectful intellectual study of the tradition, complementing the living practice maintained by Candomblé, Santería, and original Yoruba religious communities. After Module 1, advance to Module 2 (Odus and Opele) to dive deeper into the oracular system of the 256 paths.
