What is the Odu Ofun Oturupon

Ofun Oturupon (Ofun Batrupon) is the father of tongues: here were born the languages and the dialects, and the strength of the cock and the duck. It tells of the tower in which Olofin, for the disobedience of men, separated them into clans by their speech, and they abandoned the construction because they no longer understood one another. Maferefun Exu, Xangô and Ogum.

Meaning

In the Tratado, it marks a lack of union and of understanding: in the house everyone talks a great deal and does not understand one another, unable to live in harmony. Here the mamey betrayed Xangô, and it is the Ifá of the assault, in which the person must take care that one is not made against them. They suffer in the brain and the belly, they walk a great deal, and they speak ill of the saints, and for that they fall ill. They are covetous without showing it, and pass for a fool while being, in truth, very shrewd.

✦ Recommendations

Care for union and understanding within the house, where everyone talks and no one understands one another. Take baths with the herbs of the sign, such as anil, canutilho and vassoura-amarga. Do not speak ill of the saints, so that your angel does not quarrel with you. Give food to Exu, to Xangô and to Ogum, and give a ram to Iemanjá, which here you lack.

⚠ Cautions

This is the Ifá of the assault: carry no weapon of any kind, so as not to use it against anyone nor have it used against you, and avoid the tragedies in which blood runs. Beware the ill the person suffers, which may take them off suddenly, so seek those who care for health. Do not be so covetous as to lose your fortune, like the one in the story who lost it through greed.

This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.

Ire

The strength of the cock and the duck that is born here and the gift of the word of the father of tongues; the shrewdness of the one who seems a fool and is cunning, and the protection of Exu, Xangô and Ogum.

Osogbo

The lack of union and of understanding, the assault and the tragedy with blood, the disease of the brain and the belly, and the greed that makes one lose fortune.

Context and study of the 256 Odus

Ofun Oturupon belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.

In Ifá texts, the name Ofun Oturupon appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Comparing this Odu with its root Meji and related Odus helps you recognize patterns of Irê and Osogbo that recur through life and everyday choices.

The Ifá Wisdom digital library brings together all 256 paths with epithets, essence, synthesis, and practical guidance. By exploring this page and the full library, you build a foundation for meditation, spiritual journaling, and ethical follow-up—with explicit gratitude to Yoruba culture and its guardians.

Irê, Osogbo, and reading Ofun Oturupon

In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.

When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.

Ethics, respect, and continuing study
