What is the Odu Ogunda Osa
Ogunda Masa, the 'Ogunda set crosswise', is the Ifá in which Ogum crossed the road that Olofin had forbidden, and Olofin decreed: 'leave him; if he wishes to lose the meaning of life, let him find the meaning of death'. It is the watchman of the Igbodun of Ifá and represents the oyugbona.
Meaning
In the Tratado, Ogunda Masa presents problems of union in the family and says that the person's happiness is not at the side of the mother, who cursed them and wished to abort them — they should live far from her and yet treat her well, so that she not become their enemy. It warns that the children consume the mother, that one may have a child who will be prison fodder, and that the person may die before their time. It speaks of an Egum omo Iemanjá who gives everything to the one who attends to him, and forbids marijuana, which would be their undoing.

✦ Recommendations
Do the works for the union of the family and reinforce your Ogum, making cleansings with him to defeat the enemies. Live far from the mother, but get along well with her. Find out who is the Egum omo Iemanjá who will give you everything if you attend to him. Place a cedar cross at the head of the bed and sleep with your head toward its foot. Have your own house and a garden with a cypress tree. Give 16 white doves to Odudua and take care of the eyesight and the kidneys.
⚠ Cautions
Your happiness is not at the side of the mother, who cursed you. Do not smoke marijuana, which will be your undoing. Take care not to die before your time, and not to fall from a ladder, for there is an Egum who may provoke it. Do not wander nor sleep away from home, so as not to live like the vulture. Do not abandon the Warriors. This is an Ifá of gossip and of many enemies; do not eat pork and take care of the kidneys, because of stones.
This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.
Ire
The food that never lacks, because Olodumare so ordained it, and the Egum omo Iemanjá who gives everything to the one who attends to him; the own house with a cypress tree and the reinforced Ogum that defeats the enemies.
Osogbo
The mother who curses and from whom happiness withdraws, the children who consume the mother and the child who becomes prison fodder; the marijuana that ruins, the death before one's time and the wandering life of the one who lives like the vulture.
Context and study of the 256 Odus
Ogunda Osa belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.
In Ifá texts, the name Ogunda Osa appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Irê, Osogbo, and reading Ogunda Osa
In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.
When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.
