What is the Odu Osa Ofun

Osa Fun is the Ifá of betrayal, in which the monkey betrayed Obatalá before Olofin. Its proverb warns: in trust lies the danger. Like the butterfly that does not go to the city because they kill it there, the person should live in the countryside, in peace.

Meaning

In the Tratado, Osa Fun says that the person comes on behalf of another who is ill, but is worse off than the sick one themselves, and that others wish to denounce them for something they did — with ebó, however, they can save themselves. It speaks of the spouse's infidelity and of a piece of gossip in which the person is caught up, and it teaches that, by talking too much, they have already lost much.

✦ Recommendations

Make the two ebó that this Ifá calls for and guard yourself against the law, even once you have made them. Receive Ossaim and wear a white shirt with purple stripes. Move from where you live and have a mass said for a deceased person. Do what you mean to do, but hold your tongue and speak to no one.

⚠ Cautions

In trust lies the danger: guard against betrayal, like that of the one who betrayed Obatalá. Do not talk too much, for by it you have already lost much, nor cast curses or renounce. Beware of the denunciation to the law and of the infidelity within the home. Do not be obstinate, so as not to lose.

This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.

Ire

The salvation through ebó and through silence, the peace of living in the countryside like the butterfly that keeps itself safe, and the protection in moving house and fulfilling one's duties to the egun.

Osogbo

The betrayal of the one who betrayed Obatalá, the denunciation to the law, the gossip and the talking too much, the spouse's infidelity, and the trust that brings danger.

Context and study of the 256 Odus

Osa Ofun belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.

In Ifá texts, the name Osa Ofun appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Comparing this Odu with its root Meji and related Odus helps you recognize patterns of Irê and Osogbo that recur through life and everyday choices.

Irê, Osogbo, and reading Osa Ofun

In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.

When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.

Ethics, respect, and continuing study
