What is the Odu Ose Irete
Ose Irete (Oshe Bile) is the Ifá in which were born the oracle of the coconut, the Obi, and its five powers, and the secret of why the letter Etawa, the vanity of the coconut, is cast again to be confirmed. Before giving obi to Orunmilá, to any Oxá or to Egun, the awo must pray Oshe Bile.
Meaning
In the Tratado, Oshe Bile is an Ifá of inheritances in general: one inherits the riches, the properties and the intelligence of the parents, but also their iniquities, diseases and bad habits, so one must treat the hereditary ailments. It speaks of the wheelchair and of the risk of the person becoming crippled, and it teaches that one who is alone is no one and needs others to guide them, above all being of light thought, who does not analyse before deciding and can therefore be deceived with ease. It speaks of lost property that others enjoy, of deceit in documents and of false testimony, and it figures the person as a poor cat surrounded by tigers.

✦ Recommendations
Pray Oshe Bile before giving obi to Orunmilá, to the Oxás or to Egun. Treat the diseases you have inherited and care for the lungs, the heart and the blood. Do not decide anything alone nor in haste: heed the counsel of those who wish you well, so as not to be deceived. Give to eat to the saints and at the door of the house, hand Ifá to your children for their good fortune, and give to eat to Xangô, owner of this Ifá, sounding a drum for him.
⚠ Cautions
The person alone is no one: do not refuse the guidance of those who guide you, because light thought exposes you to deceit. Guard yourself from deceit in documents, from false testimony and from those who usurp properties and offices. You are a cat surrounded by tigers, so do not go alone where there are those who wish to destroy you. Beware of choking and suffocation; care for the lungs, the heart and the blood, and do not neglect the diseases of the family.
This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.

Osogbo
The inheritance of the iniquities and of the diseases of the lineage, the light thought that decides without analysing and is deceived, the property lost to others, and the defenceless cat surrounded by tigers.
Context and study of the 256 Odus
Ose Irete belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.
In Ifá texts, the name Ose Irete appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Comparing this Odu with its root Meji and related Odus helps you recognize patterns of Irê and Osogbo that recur through life and everyday choices.
The Ifá Wisdom digital library brings together all 256 paths with epithets, essence, synthesis, and practical guidance. By exploring this page and the full library, you build a foundation for meditation, spiritual journaling, and ethical follow-up—with explicit gratitude to Yoruba culture and its guardians.
Irê, Osogbo, and reading Ose Irete
In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.
When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.
Ethics, respect, and continuing study
