What is the Odu Owonrin Ofun
Ojuani Bofun is the Odu of the undertaker, in which funerals and the mortuary formalities and the secret of the iyefa were born, and in which the rivers joined the sea. It warns against curiosity: the person wants to know everything, and it is bad to know others' affairs — do not put your hands where you should not, lest you hurt them.
Meaning
In the Tratado, Ojuani Bofun says the person has an Egun araye who lives with them, and that is why they have neglected themselves so; oparaldo must be made to remove it. Through so much neglect of themselves and of the conjugal duties they failed in marriage, and through their fault the wife lost her fortune and wishes to leave; Oxum says do not weep, for she will accompany you, and guard against a betrayal. It warns that they seek to harm you through your godchildren, so that they leave your side, and that you be not envious nor miserly nor hinder others from getting ahead.

✦ Recommendations
Make oparaldo to remove the Egun araye who lives with you, and ebó to cleanse your path; make Osha and attend to Egun. Receive Exu. Attend to Oxum and see what she wishes, for she will accompany you. Respect the elders and heed the elderly person who gives you counsel. Do not eat salt nor spicy food.
⚠ Cautions
Do not be curious nor put your hands where you should not, lest you hurt them, for it is bad to know others' affairs. Do not be envious nor miserly nor hinder others from getting ahead. Beware of a betrayal — they seek to harm you through your godchildren — and of the one who wishes to see you poor in order to take advantage. Beware of news of a death, of fire and of blood disease. If there is a sick person at home, tradition prescribes the ebó as spiritual work — and medical care must not be delayed.
This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.
Ire
The joining of the rivers with the sea and the company of Oxum, who asks that you not weep; the happiness regained by the one who makes oparaldo and ebó, makes Osha, attends to Egun and heeds the counsel of the elders.
Osogbo
The Egun araye who lives with the person and causes the neglect of themselves, the failure of the marriage and the wife who loses her fortune and wishes to leave; the betrayal through the godchildren, the evil powders at the door and the blood disease, and the frailty of the sick one, who needs medical care without delay.
Context and study of the 256 Odus
Owonrin Ofun belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.
In Ifá texts, the name Owonrin Ofun appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Comparing this Odu with its root Meji and related Odus helps you recognize patterns of Irê and Osogbo that recur through life and everyday choices.

Irê, Osogbo, and reading Owonrin Ofun
In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.
When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.
Ethics, respect, and continuing study
