What is the Odu Obara Oturupon
Obara Tumbun is the Ifá in which tragedy was born, the nine colours of Oya — one for each child —, the intelligence of Obatalá and all the parasitic diseases of the dog. Here tragedy is born of the incitement between siblings, and it warns that one cannot live leaning on brute force, trampling and enslaving, for that will be one's ruin and perdition.
Meaning
In the Tratado, Obara Tumbun commands giving thanks to Babalú Ayé, receiving him and putting on the necklace, and yoko osha (seating the saint) as spiritual support in illness. The person is in poor health and, even after seeing the doctor, the condition persists; tradition indicates the ebó as spiritual work, while still seeking and following medical care. The house is refreshed, for it is hot; the blood is cared for; one does not eat coconut or peanuts, nor in another's house, and one baptizes no one. The husband should be an elderly man, and there is great care to be taken with the girls and maidens who live in the house.

✦ Recommendations
Give thanks to Babalú Ayé, receive him and put on his necklace, and yoko osha as spiritual support. Seek medical care without delay, and make the ebó as spiritual work that accompanies it. Refresh the house, for it is hot, and feed your leri. Care for your blood and eat neither coconut nor peanuts, nor in another's house, where they may cast harm upon you.
⚠ Cautions
Do not live leaning on brute force, trampling, humiliating and enslaving, for that will be your ruin. Beware of the tragedy born of the incitement between siblings. Do not eat in another's house nor anything covered, and baptize no one. If you are a woman pregnant with a girl, the child must not be raised beside the father; if you are a man, take great care with the maidens of the house.
This Odu describes tendencies and possible paths to work on — not a fixed destiny or a guaranteed prediction.
Ire
The intelligence of Obatalá and the support in illness for the one who gives thanks to Babalú Ayé, receives him and seats osha; the prosperity of the one who makes ebó and refreshes the house, and the protection gained by abandoning brute force.
Osogbo
The tragedy born of the incitement between siblings and the ruin of the one who lives by brute force, trampling and enslaving; the parasitic diseases and the health the doctor cannot find, the harm in another's food and the abuse against the maidens of the house.
Context and study of the 256 Odus
Obara Oturupon belongs to the full corpus of the 256 Odus of Ifá, a body of oral and written wisdom spanning centuries across the African diaspora and the Americas. Understanding this Odu means placing energies, archetypes, and sacred narratives in relation to the opele, divination, and a life practice guided by balance. The philosophical reading offered on this page does not replace initiation with a Babalawo or Iyanifa, but it deepens respect for the tradition and supports structured study for those who learn with humility.
In Ifá texts, the name Obara Oturupon appears in prayers, ebo, and songs; its energy is tied to cycles of transformation and to relationship with the land, the Orishas, and community. Comparing this Odu with its root Meji and related Odus helps you recognize patterns of Irê and Osogbo that recur through life and everyday choices.

By exploring this page and the full library, you build a foundation for meditation, spiritual journaling, and ethical follow-up—with explicit gratitude to Yoruba culture and its guardians.
Irê, Osogbo, and reading Obara Oturupon
In any Odù, Irê points to blessings and positive affinities; Osogbo highlights challenges and adjustments. Reading this Odu invites integrated reflection on relationships, work, emotional health, and purpose. Ifá asks for patience, right speech, and—when prescribed by an initiated priest—ebo and disciplines of conduct.
When you use the Ifá oracle with artificial intelligence on this platform, you receive a philosophical and educational interpretation: a learning bridge, not a priestly ritual. Keep that distinction to honour the tradition and the role of Babalawos and Iyanifas.
